Several years ago after making several TV and Radio Appearances in San Francisco, I was on my way, by car, to do the same thing in L.A. via Highway 5; about midway I exited onto Highway 198 having seen this sign "Harris Ranch". After all that dry flatland I thought it was a mirage. This combination of Restaurant and Inn is beautiful and is found amidst palm trees and hacienda-style architecture.

The food is prepared in the popular Harris Kitchen from hearty breakfast -- don't miss some REAL Corned Beef Hash; it's world famous!

The Food

Appetizers:

The Guacamolé & Chips made from California avocado can be served alone @ $4.75 or with Black Been Chili for $5.75. Some creative appetizers that you won't find in other restaurants are Shrimp Stuffed With Chilis for $7.95 and Stuffed Jalapeños for $5.95.

The menu also includes Soups, Salads, Burgers & Franks, Sandwiches, South of the Border dishes, "On The Light Side" dishes, and, of course, STEAK!

My Favorites:

Any and all Beef Dishes!! Their Filet Mignon is most profoundly the best you'll have in the world! Price @ $17.50 for the 6 oz. Petite Filet and $22.50 for the 12 oz. Filet. The Porterhouse was one not to miss. A large cut from the T-bone, 20 oz. for $21.50. Any steak can be served with sauteéd mushroom or sauteéd onion for just $1.50 extra. All steak entrees are served with vegetable and horseradish and include a choice of wedge-cut fries, Ranch beans, baked potato, rice pilaf, or seasonal fruit. Also includes a choice of hot soup or salad selection; Caesar, Spinach or Garden. Let's not forget about the steak sandwiches; your choice of Sirloin Steak for $9.95 or Roasted Prime Rib for $10.95.

Kid's Menu:

The children's menu found at The Ranch Kitchen and at The Jockey Club is called "Little Ranch Hands" and come with wedge-cut fries and a cookie. The menu has on it a Grilled Cheese Sandwich for $3.50, Harris Ranch All-Beef Hot Dog for $3.50, Chicken Strips for $3.50 or a Bean & Cheese Burrito for $4.50.

The Fountain Court Grill:

The Fountain Court Grill is open only for dinner in the Ranch's fine dining room. It features a large selection of Harris Ranch specialties in a hacienda courtyard setting. The restaurant is a favorite for couples, families, and small dinner parties. The menu includes hot and cold appetizers, soups. salads, pastas, Harris Ranch steaks, prime ribs, seafood and vegetarian dishes. The wine list has a large selection of California wines with a focus on local central coast wineries.

At the top of The Fountain Court Grill's menu there is a monthly Farm Report, featuring the seasons fruits, vegetables and herbs which are used in the food and come from the Harris Ranch garden.

Here are some of The Fountain Court Grill's appetizing menu choices. For a cold appetizer begin with the Jumbo White Shrimp Cocktail with "Harris Ranch" Gazpacho for $8.50 or a hot appetizer of Mountain Oyster with Cocktail Sauce for $5.75. If you are interested in pasta (although you must try the steak), each choice sounds delicious, but the Grilled Sea Scallops & Jumbo White Shrimp in Saffron Risotto "Paella" for $13.50 sounds yummy. There are also other meat entrees, besides steak, as well as vegetable dishes. The choices of steak cuts is endless, including different cuts and size of the New York Striploin, Filet Tenderloin, Top Sirloin, Rib Eye, Shortloin, and Prime Rib.

Dessert:

All Harris Ranch Desserts are baked every morning fresh at the Harris Ranch Bakery. Some of the desserts include White Chocolate Cheesecake served with fresh fruit sauce and topped with white chocolate shavings for $3.50. Fresh Berry Shortcake for $3.25, and a Chocolate Cake, a moist chocolate cake filled with espresso mousse and finished with white chocolate buttercream, that is delicious for $3.50. (Please realize prices may have changed.)
