AUNT IDA'S APPLE DESSERT

My Aunt Ida likes to make this, and I have news for you, it is outrageously simple but delectable. Serve with the very best vanilla ice cream.

            ½ cup unsalted butter

½ cup raisins

1 cup crumbled oatmeal cookies

½ cup flour

4 large baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1 cup brown sugar

Juice of 1 lemon

¼ teaspoon cinnamon

¼
teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

Serves 6.

Pre-heat oven to 350°.  Melt butter in a skillet. Add the raisins and crumbled cookies.  Stir over low heat until all are coated with butter.  Remove from the heat and mix in the flour.

Lay half the apples in an 8-inch-round greased casserole or soufflé dish. Sprinkle them with
½ cup brown sugar and half the lemon juice. Make another layer with the remaining apples, and add the rest of the brown sugar and lemon juice. Top off with the cookie mixture. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and nutmeg.

Bake approximately 45 minutes.
